Post-Doctoral Associate: Food Chemistry – Phytochemicals/Protein Chemistry
Duties and responsibilities:
- Day-to-day administrative management and organization of Phytochemicals/Protein Chemistry research laboratory in the Dept. of Food Science and Nutrition
- Communicate with the Dept., College and Central personnel regarding all basic laboratory issues – lab safety, human resources, approvals, etc.
- Manage the lab research budget, ordering and inventory
- Participate with Principal Investigator in the design, implementation, and evaluation of a phytochemicals/protein chemistry research projects.
- Plan and direct research projects.
- Develop methods, techniques, instrumentation, and devices needed to carry out the research project.
- Analyze and evaluate research results.
- Participate in preparation, presentation and reporting of data
- Author, co-author, and otherwise collaborate on reports, conference papers and publications.
- Supervise the review of literature in the field in which the research is being done.
- Author and coauthor manuscripts for publication and/or presentation at professional meetings.
- Draft proposals to funding agencies to procure funds for new projects.
- Train graduate and undergraduates students on experimental procedures
Appointment:
Position is 100% time 12-month (A) annual renewable appointment. This Post Doctoral Research Associate (job code # 9546) position is an annually renewable, but renewal is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance. Post Doctoral Research Associate appointments at the University of Minnesota are limited to three years. The appointment provides access to University health and vacation benefits. Annual salary base: ~$35,000.
Required qualifications:
Ph.D. in science; experience in industry and/or university Food Chemistry research
Preferred qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Food Chemistry with protein and/or phytochemical emphasis
- Experience in the analytical instrumentation associated with protein/enzyme chemistry research
- Two years hands-on experience with HPLC analysis
- Familiarity with LC/MS equipment and methods
- Familiarity with FTIR and DSC equipment and methods
- General laboratory and management organizational skills
- Ability to work independently as well as with a diverse group of people
- Evidence of willingness to learn new techniques
- Experience with manuscript preparation and publication in peer-reviewed journals
